Well, it has been over five months since a added anything
to Dada, and now I have planned back to back additions all ready to go.
For some reason in my life I seem to be on an
Asian kick, maybe that kick has been going on for about 25 years,
but still there are ebbs and flows.
The first item I want to include here is my long sought after first time Boba
experience. But the most amazing part is that it coincides with a new wireless
internet experience as well, but you will have to read about that at the "Starbucks
SUX" page.
If you don't have any idea what Boba is, here is a definition
from the online Urban Dictionary:
boba "bow bah"
definition: Round spheres usually found
in tapioca drinks made of glucose and other fattening materials.
Once you eat them... it will never get out of your system.
The bottom line is that I found a great Boba shop just
off the 3rd St Promenade in Santa Monica, the joint is entitled:
Infuzion Cafe
1149 3rd St Ste 100
Santa Monica, CA 90403-5005

It is off the mall just enough to not get inundated
with losers. In actuality the three guys that own it, (Ai-Van, Henry
and the other guy) pretty much know everyone that walk through the door
by their first name.
If you sit in there for more than ten minutes you will
also see people just walking by stick there head in and go, Hey Ai-Van
(it is pronounced Ivan), or Hi Henry (I have not heard anyone call him
Hank yet).
The coffle is pretty decent, the baked goods are so-so,
the sandwiches are pretty mediocre, but there are two things you really
cannot beat at the Infuzion Cafe. The free wireless internet and the
Boba. Even though I have only had two Boba's (?), I feel pretty confident
that this place is selling the shit. I mean they got all the cool gear,
like fifteen million ways to make it and you can ask for your own version
if you know how. They are very friendly and will
talk you through your first Boba, which I made sure to take full advantage
of.
One of the main reasons I felt compelled to get into
this Boba thing was the amazing machine that Ai-Van calls, the Boba Machine.
After putting in all the secret ingredients you put the plastic cup he
slips the cup into the little sleeve of this machine and it disappears
into the Boba machine, the gears whirr and the plastic parts move and
before your very eyes the little plastic cup returns with a clear seal
over the top with little Asian cartoon characters on it.
The cup is now sealed, so sealed that Ai-Van (or any
venerable Bobarista) canpick up the cups and shake the shit out of it.
Now it is done and given the the drink who selects a
gigantic straw, wide enough to allow the boba balls to flow, and you
sit down and drink/eat it.
And in the case of the Infuzion Cafe, surf the internet
wirelessly for free while doing so.
Thanks Mom for the awesome tip!
