The other day I got into a conversation with some co-workers about
a new modern, hip, European feeling convenience store that is attempting
to take over Los Angeles. They are called Famima! and currently there
are 11 in the greater Los Angeles area.
As much as I would love to feel differently, I just have this sneaking
suspicion that one year from now Famima! will go the way of Kozmo,
and other well meaning, yet inappropriate services that do not fit into
our culture.
So, I thought I would put my thoughts here and make it official. This is
the Famima! is going down web page counter. I state that on January 19th,
2008 you will not be able to find a Famima! in Los Angeles.
Don't get me wrong. I love the idea, heck I even picked up my lunch from
there yesterday. They are exactly what is on many street corners in the
most progressive culturally urban centers on the planet Earth. Clean, well
designed mini marts selling everything from beautiful European erasers
to sushi. I love the idea of Famima! and wish there was one on my corner
(maybe there will be), but the truth be told, LA just does not support
this kind of personalized, one on one, high end, foot traffic or people
related stuff. It is just my opinion, but after twenty four year of watching
the wheels turn in this bizarre place I call home, I think I have a handle
on what works and what doesn't.
Please feel free to leave your comments and I will add them to the page
as we all sick back and watch Famima! go down. |
