Goin’ Postal in 1951

I love the post office and what better way to introduce my new blog?
I have always heard about and firmly believed in the information that the USPO operated a citywide pneumatic delivery system underneath the sidewalks of New York.

But, in the back of my mind I also always thought, that is freakin’ impossible.

Anyway, I stole this from a digg story and bring it here for all to view. A 1951 article from Popular Science that describes the process of sending a letter from coast to coast and starts with a description of the 27 mile long underground tube system in NYC. Oh, and has lots of pretty pictures.

Below is a link to the full article in pdf format. I will open in a new window. If you would like to view or download the pdf article and read it later, click here:

Who me? Well, Uh, I used to have a website (still do) that I love(d) and always wanted it to be pretty much a blog, even though blogs did not exist when I started the site. Like a daily newspaper of all things Hank is the way I always looked at it. So now, I crumbled and have a blog like the rest of humanity.
